Back on campus, on a patch of pavement near The Perch, a coach and two athletes have put KSU on the map in track and field鈥檚 weight throws. Two of the three are rewriting KSU athletics history at the Paris Olympic Games now underway.

Kennesaw State nursing professors Mary Dioise Ramos and Chinomso Nwozichi have been selected as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing. Induction into the Academy is a significant milestone in a nurse leader鈥檚 career in which their accomplishments are honored by their colleagues within and outside the profession. Fellows are selected based on their contributions and impact to advance the public鈥檚 health.

Kennesaw State University is teaming with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue careers in public service. Kennesaw State is beginning a three-year partnership with the HHS鈥 Pathways to Public Service program, which will help students obtain paid internships and entry-level positions with federal government agencies.

As his master鈥檚 thesis started to take shape, recent Kennesaw State University graduate William Reed noticed a limited amount of literature reviewing soccer referees within exercise science. So, he broke new ground. Reed, who earned his master鈥檚 degree in exercise science, connected his love of soccer with his academic interest in human performance, earning acclaim along the way.

Tanasia Kenney has plenty of childhood memories at Kennesaw State University. Her mother, former KSU employee Jacqueline Hand, frequently brought her to campus, where she was known as 鈥淛ackie鈥檚 daughter,鈥 and became familiar with staff and faculty. Now a reporter for McClatchy news publications, Kenney is just one member of a KSU alumni family.

Kennesaw State professor of exercise science Bob Buresh had an idea and a goal. He had an idea for a predictive website that could offer users the right amount of exercise each day in the form of a step count to achieve, based on information provided to the website. But how could he bring that idea to the marketplace? KSU鈥檚 Office of Intellectual Property Development helped Buresh take the necessary steps to bring his Stepping Forward program closer to launch by helping him secure a patent and pursue funding.

One message reset the life trajectory for Kennesaw State University graduate student Lacey Harper. Two years after earning a bachelor鈥檚 degree in exercise science summa cum laude from KSU, Harper worked as manager at a sporting goods store when she received a message via LinkedIn from one of her former professors, Garrett Hester. Currently pursuing a master鈥檚 in exercise science, Harper has thrived in the Hester research group. Along with the important mission of improving the health of older women, she discovered her inner nerd, immersing herself in the data analysis of her various projects as well as the hands-on aspects of studying the effects of exercise.
