The old adage that looks can be deceiving could certainly apply to Maria Benitez Blanco. On the exterior, she has long, styled hair and big, dark eyes that light up when she smiles. Her painted fingernails are long and adorned with little jewels on each nail. But on the interior, Blanco is courageous, passionate and full of grit. 鈥淚 had a rough childhood,鈥 said Blanco, who now studies construction management at Kennesaw State University.

Growing up, Darral Tate knew architecture was an important vocation but did not recognize the beauty in it until later in life. Encouraged by his mother to find his place as an artist, he found the perfect outlet in architecture. Since graduating from Kennesaw State University in 2019, Tate has continued to use his skills to launch a flourishing career in the built environment.

Graduating Kennesaw State University student Temi Aladegbemi said her career choice was inspired by what caught her eyes outside car windows while growing up. Kennesaw State was the first university Aladegbemi visited for a tour, and from the moment she arrived on the Marietta Campus, she knew her place was in the College of Architecture and Construction Management. A first-generation college student graduating on Dec. 12, Aladegbemi has been active in campus activities from her earliest days at KSU.

Play is the universal language of children. That concept has never been lost on two Kennesaw State professors who also happen to be husband and wife and the parents of a young child with special needs. Ali Keyvanfar, an assistant professor of construction management, and Arezou Shafaghat, a limited-term assistant professor in architecture, had never set foot into the world of early childhood education prior to 2020.

This week, nearly 3,000 students will walk across the stage in one of six ceremonies in which undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students will be awarded degrees from the University.
