Early childhood experiences set KSU master's student on right path

An animal lover from a young age, Kerrigan Larkin found her calling long before enrolling at Kennesaw State University. During walks in Marietta鈥檚 Laurel Park with her grandmother, Larkin learned about the plants and animals she saw. She applied that knowledge first as an Honors biology major at KSU, and now as a second-year student in the Master of Science in Integrative Biology program.

Kennesaw State engineering professor appointed to Idaho National Laboratory

A Kennesaw State University professor has received a joint appointment with Idaho National Laboratory (INL), a collaboration that will enhance engineering research within the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SPCEET). This partnership will also offer engineering and engineering technology students valuable hands-on experience and the chance to study applied engineering in nuclear applications. Aaron Adams, associate professor of mechanical engineering technology and assistant department chair, is the first KSU professor to earn this appointment.

The program, Fireside Chat: Leading with Integrity and Values, featured Sonia Toson, vice president, organizational effectiveness, leadership development and inclusive excellence, in conversation with Nwakaego Nkumeh Walker, KSU鈥檚 chief legal affairs officer.

Much like ants working together in a colony, Kennesaw State University researchers envision a future where driverless cars coordinate seamlessly with one another to enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and minimize emissions. Mahyar Amirgholy, an assistant professor in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology and research affiliate in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory鈥檚 Energy Analysis and Environmental Impacts Division, is engaged in a broad spectrum of projects aimed at improving transportation efficiency and sustainability through advanced technologies.

Kennesaw State researcher earns NIH grant to investigate health factors related to obesity using AI

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported that obesity was prevalent in more than 40 percent in U.S. adults. To combat this, Kennesaw State University assistant professor Liang Zhao aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to explore health determinants that lead to obesity in rural areas. Zhao鈥檚 research, supported by a $51,747 National Institutes of Health (NIH) AIM-AHEAD grant, examines the social determinants of health, or SDOH.

Kennesaw State assistant professor awarded Georgia Research Alliance grant to advance groundbreaking diabetes research

Taking the next step in changing the way diabetics monitor glucose levels, Kennesaw State University assistant professor Maria Valero has been awarded a Georgia Research Alliance (GRA) grant to continue her innovative GlucoCheck project. The project looks to modify glucose monitoring for the millions affected by diabetes by offering a noninvasive alternative for blood sugar tests.
